Drag and drop

Pieces are moved by dragging: between your hand and the table, from container to container, or to another player. This page is about where you can carry them from and to, and what happens when you drop.

Dragging one piece

From the table

Touch the card and start dragging. The card lifts, moves into the topmost layer, and so stays visible the whole way.

From your hand

Grab the card in either of your hand bars and drag it upwards. The card leaves your hand (the left or the right one, whichever it was in), and from then on it behaves like any card on the table.

From the box

The same way: grab the piece in the box’s bar and drag it up onto the table.

::: tip The box and your right hand share the same place on the bar, see Your two hands and the box. While the box is out your right hand is not visible, so you cannot go between the two in one drag. Put the card into your left hand first, and from there it goes both ways. :::

From an opponent’s hand

Switch to the opponent’s view, then, in the top band, drag down from the middle card to take it from them, whether their left or their right hand is the one open. This only works if that hand’s shield is off: their two hands are protected independently. See: Areas.

Dragging several pieces

  • selected cards: select several, then drag any one of them. The whole selection moves
  • from the right wall: drag any picture on the wall of selected pieces inwards and you carry the whole selection
  • after a multiple pickup: tap a pile quickly several times, then drag them away

While you drag several cards the handful shows slightly offset, one on top of the other, and a number tells you how many there are.

Where you can drop

TargetWhat happens
an existing containerthe piece goes into the container
an empty part of the tablea new, one piece container is created there
your hand barthe piece goes into your hand
the box’s barthe piece goes back into the box
an opponent’s headthe piece flies over to them
back where it came fromthe drag is cancelled, nothing happens

While you drag, the possible target containers are highlighted faintly in your own colour, and the one you are over is highlighted more strongly.

Dropping into a container

The card’s face matches the rest of the container: if everything there is face up it goes in face up, if everything is face down, face down.

If the container cannot take the piece (because it is meant for a different kind), it does not light up at all: you simply pass over it.

Dropping into your hand

The fan opens a gap where your finger is, so the card lands where you aim: dropped on the left bar into your left hand, on the right bar into your right hand. If that hand was collapsed into a strip, the strip opens by itself as you move over it.

You can drag between your two hands this way as well: pick the card up in one hand bar and drop it into the other.

Dropping to an opponent

Drag the card onto the opponent’s head on the top wall. The row of heads can be scrolled, but a drag perpendicular to the wall is always the drop, never the scroll.

Which area you drop into

A drop always lands in the area you are looking at: the shared table, your own area, or an opponent’s. You switch areas with the heads, see Areas.

::: warning The old rule, that moving the hand bar up and down switched the target area, is gone. The hand bar cannot be moved, and does not need to be. :::

Actions during a drag

During a drag the toolbar does not switch into any special mode: every button stays where it is. The corners do pick up the buttons that mean something during a drag:

ButtonWhereWhat it does
Flipbottom left cornerstop over the button and what you are carrying flips
Shufflebottom right cornershuffles what you are carrying
Rotatetop right cornerstop over the button and what you are carrying turns 45 degrees

You have to hold it over the button for a moment for the action to run.

Rotating during a drag

While you drag a card or a container, hold it over the Rotate button (top right corner) for a moment: what you are carrying turns 45 degrees, and you see it straight away under your finger. For another 45 degrees take it off the button and hold it there again: one hold is one step.

⚠ A drag that starts from the box or from an opponent’s hand does not rotate, and if you have to choose a container type after the drop, the angle you picked up is lost.

The angle you picked up only means anything if you drop onto the empty table: the new container created that way is created at that angle. Dropped into an existing container the angle is lost, as the card takes on the container’s own direction, the way it would anyway.

  • stop over a navigation arrow and the camera switches to the arrow’s target
  • stop over a bookmark and the camera jumps there
  • drag outside the circle of arrows and the table starts scrolling by itself

That way you can carry a card somewhere far off without letting go of it.

Stopping over a head

The same stopping works on the heads too, on your own and on an opponent’s: hold the card there for a moment (as long as over the arrows and the bookmarks) and the view switches to that area. It is the same switch as tapping the head, except that the card does not get put down on the way. If you are already in the area of the head you aimed at (your own, or their area in focus), the stop takes you back to the shared one, the same way tapping the head toggles back and forth.
